Technical Training

NYSIA, as a partner in the New York Information Technology Career Ladder Consortium (NYITCLC) has successfully implemented a training program for New York City IT workers, designed to update their skills and to help them to remain competitive. The final class of intermediate students was graduated on December 20, 2005. Advanced classes will continue through 2006.

The NYITCLC, a collaborative effort between NYSIA, the Workforce Investment Board, the Workforce Strategy Center, Seedco, and the CUNY Institute for Software Design and Development (CISDD), has developed this program, through a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, and has been providing IT skills and job readiness training for unemployed, dislocated, or underemployed workers and high level IT training for workers currently employed.

The program, begun in 2003, has to date successfully trained over 500 employed and unemployed workers in skills such as MS SQL Server, VB.Net and Systems Administration. Over 70 formerly unemployed IT workers have found employment in the industry through the program. NYSIA member companies have hired training program graduates to work in positions such as programmers, jr. systems administrators, desktop support specialists, and jr. java developers.

Also through this program, NYSIA has offered customized IT training to member companies. This training, designed with the participating company, allows companies to offer training tailored to the needs of their organization. For more information contact us via email at info@nysia.org.

Advanced Training

Advanced Classes designed especially for NYSIA members are ongoing. Each class is designed and taught by the CUNY Institute for Software Design and Development (CISDD) and will meet on the dates shown. Trainees must be available to attend all sessions of the course. All classes will be held in Manhattan and specific class location can be found in the course descriptions. If you are interested in having your employees attend any of these classes, please contact us via e-mail at info@nysia.org.

Training is made possible by a technical skills training grant from the U.S. Department of Labor.
